I purchased the Frigidaire FTF530FS Front Load Washer after my old Speed Queen finally gave out. I liked the fact that front load washers use half the water, energy, and the clothes come out practically dry right out of the unit.

However, I learned very quickly the drawbacks of a front load washer. First was the very small loading door for the clothes. I had to put things in one at a time, and pack them in tight in order to even get a small basket of wash done. Second was that if I packed too many clothes in the drum, the door leaked out the bottom. The pressure of the clothes against the door caused it not to seal properly. And lastly, the incredibly short life span of this type of washer.

I owned the Frigidaire for about 4 years total, in which the first two problems were immediately noticed - by the way I owned my Speed Queen for at least 20 years without a single repair. The short life span kind of took me by surprise. When I was using the washer one afternoon I heard what sounded like an explosion coming from the basement, and it turned out to be some kind of cam shaft that broke inside the washer. Like I always have done in the past whenever any appliance needed repair I called the local service tech. Well, he came by and after about 1/2 hour or so of poking around the machine, of which I think 20 minutes was just for show, I got a bill to repair it for $750.00! Unbelievable! I’ll just buy something new at that price! The repair tech agreed with me, but I still had to pay the service fee of $75.00 just to find that out.

Although the front load washers have some good points, their durability is just not what it should be, and for the money its not worth buying another one. I went back to the old tried and true Kenmore Top Loader and haven’t had another issue since.
